This week the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission fined BetFred and PointsBet for failing to adhere to the Hawkeye State's self-exclusion policies.

PointsBet was hit was a $5,000 fine for violating the rules, which the company says were broken by accident. The company has reached out to the regulator to ensure that the violations were a mistake and that they're taking steps to remedy the problem.

BetFred was also fined $5,000 because they failed to download a list of self-excluded players within the timeframe allowed. An employee downloaded the list one day late after downloading the list a day early the week before.

Iowa is working hard to enforce their regulations in a new sportsbetting market, which began offering wagers on activities in August 2019. The activity has proven to be popular among players, and operators are joining the ranks of becoming licensed books.

At least they're consistent. They fined DraftKings last month for the same amount. They certainly aren't playing around with compliance. Even a day late is a $5,000 fine.
