The Belgium Gaming Commission has announced a temporary max betting limit of €500 while the country's mandated Covid-19 lockdown remains in place.
The announcement came after concerns about punters being stuck inside with nothing else to do other than gamble were raised, with other countries limiting or outright banning online betting for the time being. Players that feel they need the limit lower can do so at sites they're using, and operators are compelled to meet that request.
Sites that don't comply with the action are subject to monetary penalties, and funds lost in excess of €500 will have to be repaid by the operators.
In a statement last week regarding the lockdown and gambling, the BGC wrote: "While gambling has never been the solution to any problem, the current situation could see people spending more time on the internet especially on gaming sites. In addition, many people lose social control because they are alone at home."

This isn't a bad decision in my opinion, it's not too extreme and people can still play but need to make sure to follow their limits more.

Wow. That is going to be open to exploitation pretty quick.

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
Post in our forums to earn CLchips which can be used to buy real prizes in our CLchips shop.
I'd be frustrated if those restrictions were imposed on me. This is plainly invasive - people should be trusted to spend their money however they wish.
Belgium has a historically overzealous approach to gambling regulation.

Yeah for sure. I wonder if casinos would be like "well they bet over the 500 Euros, so these winnings are null and void" to try to get out if a player hauls in some big wins.

Oh, this news is very surprising. So, casinos will put 500 euro limit on the deposit amount from Belgian players, otherwise, it will be messed up.
In my opinion this is not that bad of a decision at all when the people are mainly stuck at home now...(and it's just for a limited time..even though unidentified), of course different players - different stakes...but anyone can adjust their stack for the week accordingly I think..eventually there's no other choice if you're there.
In the end It was implemented to protect the players I think...so don't have a problem with it.
Exactly slim..that would be my question as well..if the losses for the players are nullified than.... the casinos could insist for the same when it's about winnings I guess...from that perspective the rule really seems to be silly but maybe we don't have the whole info and what's exactly included as a regalement.
