On Sunday a football quarterback resembling a homeless man cost a stupid gambler $74,430 when he threw a touchdown in the last minute of the game to beat the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
Some idiot bet $74,430 on the Patriots to beat the Dolphins on a -1600 moneyline. If he'd had prevailed, the gambler would have brought home just a net win of $4,651.85. Unfortunately for him, the 17 point underdog Dolphins were led by Ryan Fitzpatrick, a journeyman quarterback who, despite his haggard beard, has earned millions of dollars throughout his career.
Fitzpatrick led his team down the field, throwing a touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki for five yards with just 29 seconds left in the game. That put his team ahead 27-24, and New England wasn't able to go down the field to tie or win.
Even though the crazy gambler lost all of that money on an insane bet that they no doubt thought was a lock, many sportsbooks took a bath on the result. One gambler at the Westgate Resort in Las Vegas put a $15,000 wager on the Dolphins, winning $120,000. A different gambler also won $70,000 on a $10,000 bet by taking Miami at 7:1 odds.
This isn't the first stupid bet that we've heard of, but it's the first one we can recall being ruined by a man that looks like he could be cooking a can of beans underneath a bridge somewhere.

Idiot. Cue the Nelson "Haha!" gif.
Yeah...he's probably an idiot but I wouldn't say I haven't placed even more idiotic bets than that...well not of this size of course.
