Portugal Online Betting Market Sets Revenue Records in Second Quarter

Portugal's gaming regulator Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) has announced the country's second quarter betting numbers, setting a new record for the period.

The online betting industry brought in €48.3 million for the three months ending June 30th, 2019, which beat the old record of €47.3 million. The total is 29.5% higher than the number brought in the year prior. Casino betting generated €25.3 million in revenues, up from €16.8 million in the year prior. There was €699.8 million wagered on casino games, with slots accounting for 67.03% of the total, while French roulette accounting for 13.49%, and blackjack totaling 8.08%.

Sportsbetting revenues reached €23 million up 12.4% from the year prior. The most popular sport wagered was soccer, with 71.41% of wagers placed, while tennis was second at 16.38%, and basketball being third at 7.5%.

Land-based revenues were up 0.5% to €77.4 million, with slots once again generating most of the revenue.

Obviously the raise in revenues have been quite significant in Portugal but of course that shouldn't surprise us at all I think when it's about a wealthy but still not fully developed market in my opinion, we could see more of that in the next quarters or even next year I guess.
