Italy set a new online casino revenue record in January, but sportsbetting numbers were down from the year prior.

The online casino market was up 20.5% to €72 million, which is the largest number ever recorded for the country. The Stars Group had 10.6% of the market share, with Lottomatica next at 8.3% and Sisal third at 7.6%. Poker was up in the month as well, with numbers up 23.6% to €8.9 million. Once again, PokerStars was the dominant force, with 63.4% of tournament share and 39.5% of cash game share.

Sportsbetting numbers were down 17.2% from last year, but still hauled in an impressive €150.5 million. Analysts say the slowdown is due to the Serie A league having their winter break in January of this year, rather than January.

Retail betting was down 26% as well, reaching €66.5 million. The largest operator in that sector was Intralot/Goldbet, which had a 20.4% market share. Snaitech holding 17% and Eurobet having 14.3%.
