888 Gains Portuguese Gaming License

This story was published more than 5 years ago.

This week Portugal's gaming regulator Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) awarded 888 Holdings an internet gaming license, allowing the company to enter the market.

The license covers online casino games including slots and table games, and will also allow 888poker to be in operation as well. The license is the second in recent months for 888, which also gained approval in Sweden for the newest market. They also hold licenses in the UK, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Portugal has licensed fifteen other groups, so the market is severely limited at this point.

888 should be live in the country in the very near future.

It's quite odd I think that 888 who are a well known and one of the operators being out there like forever have been licensed in just few of the European gambling markets.
I guess being allowed to enter the Portuguese market now is pretty significant news for them but I wonder if the EU countries could reach some agreement about gambling regulations in future which could cut the procedure of the applying drastically...I guess that's just a wish for now.
