Earlier this month an 85 year old gambler at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey won a $1 million payout while playing Three Card Poker.
Harold McDowell won the prize when he placed a $5 side wager on the Six Card Bonus variant of Three Card Poker. He was dealt out an Ace of Diamonds, Queen of Diamonds, and 10 of Diamonds, while the dealer had a King of Diamond, Jack of Diamond, and 9 of Diamond. The hand ended out triggering the game's progressive jackpot, which has never been hit and has odds of 1 in 20,348,320.
McDowell was playing at the table next to his wife, and had about $200 wagered when he hit the jackpot. "I had my back to her. I turned around and said, 'I just won a million dollars.", the winner explained. "She told me, 'You're full of crap.'"
The lucky hand comes just a day after Harold's wife was revealed to be cancer free after undergoing numerous treatments for colon cancer. With that in mind, the big winner said that it's likely that the win won't change much for the couple, but that they may make things a bit easier for their children.
"Our lives will probably stay pretty much the same, but it might get better for our children," Harold said. "It was better news that she's healthy. Money isn't the most important thing."
