Betting firm 888 has signed a partnership agreement with the New York Jets, becoming the first betting company to sign a deal with an NFL team.
The group has been having their logo featured at MetLife Stadium for the past few weeks, but the deal was only officially announced on November 6th. 888 has been operational in New Jersey for some time, where they provide online betting services through casinos in Atlantic City through a partnership with Caesars. The deal gives 888 "Red Zone" signage on video boards, as well as marketing opportunities, including on the team's radio broadcasts.
The move makes 888 the first operator to offer sportsbetting services to sign on with an NFL team. The league has been notoriously anti-gambling, but is shifting their opposition after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the sportsbetting ban earlier this year.
Commenting on the deal 888's Yaniv Sherman said, "This exciting deal between the New York Jets and 888.com is a significant moment for both 888 and our industry as it marks the first ever sponsorship agreement between an NFL team and a global online operator.
"888 has a unique position across the three regulated states for full online gaming... This will support the successful delivery of our growth strategy to be a leading operator in the developing and potentially significant US online gaming market."
