Last week Casino Listings was the first to break the news of the record-breaking €18,915,721 Mega Moolah Mega jackpot win. Today, we're happy to be able to report some details on that huge jackpot.
Our sources are telling us that the winner of the jackpot is a punter who hauled in the world record win at Grand Mondial Casino. We can also tell from the amount the jackpot dropped without reseeding at £1 million that the prize was won by a player who was betting in Euros.
Microgaming's David Reynolds spoke about the win, revealing: "We've been on the edge of our seats in anticipation of the Mega Moolah jackpot being hit these past few weeks. Watching the jackpot grow has been exciting for us at Microgaming and we are immensely proud to see it set a new record. Congratulations to Grand Mondial Casino and their lucky player on this amazing win!"
Casino Rewards (the group behind Grand Mondial) Promotions Manager Emma Hall added: "This is the moment we were hoping would come! And for the player to win the jackpot from a 75 cents bet in less than 50 spins is just incredible. For Grand Mondial Casino to land this gigantic jackpot, and be part of Casino Rewards group, which has had so many Mega Moolah winners in the past, we just couldn't be prouder and more pleased. Casino Rewards has seen five huge Mega Moolah winners in the past 12 months and now our sixth winner has absolutely smashed all records yet!"
This is the 50th win for the jackpot since we began tracking it in December 2009, and the latest in a string of big progressive jackpot wins at Grand Mondial in the past year. A Canadian player with the initials K.T. kicked the lucky streak off in November 2017 with a Mega Moolah win of $1.4m at the casino, followed by M.G. who banked a tidy €4.3m jackpot a month later in December 2017, and then S.K. from Canada hit a $5.7m win earlier this year in April. The casino has also recently hosted a big win on Mega Moolah's second tier "Major" jackpot in August, with player M.D. taking home €138,050, and there was a €106,574 win in 2017 on the Avalon II slot.
Other multi-million dollar jackpots have also been hauled in by punters at sister sites to Grand Mondial, which is part of the Casino Rewards group. For example Zodiac Casino, whose customer D.P. hauled in $11.6m in 2016, and a Canadian punter D.S. won almost $3.7m at Zodiac Casino in January of this year. And yet another huge €4.3m Mega Moolah win was claimed by Captain Cooks Casino player F.D. in March 2018. So it seems that the Casino Rewards group are on a hot streak as far as massive jackpot winners go.
The Mega Moolah Mega already held the Guinness World Record for largest online slot machine jackpot win when British punter Jon Heywood took home the prize at Betway for £13,212.882. Heywood was serving in the British military at the time he struck it big. The Afghanistan War veteran took home the prize with just a 25p bet, which sent him to the jackpot wheel bonus, where his life changed forever. "It's all so surreal, and I can't come to terms with it just yet, I just kept staring at my screen and seeing this huge number in my Betway account," Heywood said of his win at the time. We're guessing this new record holder is having similar thoughts running through their head.
Prior to Heywood's win, the world record was held by Swedish casino game developer Net Entertainment's Mega Fortune Jackpot. A whopping €17,861,813 was won at Paf with an anonymous Finnish player taking home the prize in January of 2013. At the time, the largest preceding jackpot win was a €11,736,228 haul at Betsson, also on Mega Fortune.
The Mega Fortune and Mega Moolah jackpots are relatively similar, with both games featuring multiple tiered progressive jackpots that can be won with any wagered amount. Both feature jackpot bonus rounds that have a jackpot wheel, although this is where things can vary a bit. The Mega Fortune wheel has multiple tiers to it, and players need to land on arrows to advance all the way to the innermost reel to win the Mega Jackpot. In the Mega Fortune game, there are different coloured wedges, with each corresponding to a different jackpot. The Mega Jackpot has a single wedge dedicated to it, and players need to land on that when they spin the reel to take home the win.
Casino Listings uses an exclusive jackpot tracker that we developed to help track down progressive jackpot values for online casino games. The software has been in place since June 2009. We currently track 682 jackpots around the world, with more than $2.6 billion in winnings having been recorded across 161,244 wins during that period. This jackpot tracker helps the news team keep up on recent wins, often becoming one of the first outside sources to learn of the win. This was the case for Casino Listings news editor Dustin Jermalowicz, who was working on a separate news story when he saw the jackpot pop. "I had been anticipating that the prize was going to go off soon," Dustin said. "I've only ever seen two other big wins that even compare to this. As soon as I got the notification, I was typing up a new story to break the news to our readers."
Casinos are often competing for publicity, as there are so many betting sites for punters to choose from. Because of this, we expect both Microgaming and Grand Mondial Casino to come forward and tout the big win. We don't know if they punter is going to remain anonymous or not, but we promise to keep players updated and will let you know more as the news comes to us.
