del Lago Resort & Casino Signs Sportsbetting Deal With DraftKings

This story was published more than 5 years ago.

New York based casino del Lago Resort & Casino has announced this week that they've struck a deal with fantasy sports group DraftKings to run their sportsbook, should the Empire State legalize the activity.

The deal is pre-emptive, meaning that it won't come to fruition unless the state of New York legalizes and regulates the activity. The two groups would work together to create a physical as well as a mobile sportsbook for the resort, which will then be made available to visitors of the upstate resort. DraftKings has already signed a sportsbetting deal with Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, which is thought to be launching somewhere in the near future.

New York would be a boom market for sportsbetting, as it is home to the largest city in the country as well as Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and others. The state hasn't had a real attempt to legalize sportsbetting, despite the Supreme Court striking down the sportsbetting ban in May. Neighboring state New Jersey has already implemented the activity, generating millions of dollars in revenue during the first two weeks it was offered. Pennsylvania and other states are also considering legalizing the activity. If New York lags, it could fall behind and lose potential market share for the betting.

Both Virtual Sports giants in US, FanDuel and Draft Kings have been busy lately signing all kind of sportbetting partnership deals which just shows they want a big share of the pie in this new for the States business and maybe even be as much as dominant as they are on VS market.
