Paddy Power Taking Bets on Amazon Headquarters Search

This story was published more than 5 years ago.

Internet betting group Paddy Power is cashing in on Amazon hysteria by accepting bets on where the company will choose for its second headquarters in North America.

Amazon whittled its list of 238 applications for a second headquarters last week to 20 finalists. There were a bunch of different considerations taken into account, including transit, ability to draw talent, and tax incentives from local government that helped showcase the finalists. A second Amazon headquarters will bring 50,000 jobs and will likely invigorate growth in the area.

The announcement was a big news story, and Paddy Power appears keen to capitalize on the hysteria. The company has posted odds for the winning cities, with Boston taking the early lead with 3:1 odds. The second place cities are Atlanta and Austin, both of which have 7:2 odds. Pittsburgh and Montgomery County in Maryland are third at 8:1.

The top 20 cities in the Amazon search are: Toronto, Columbus, Indianapolis, Chicago, Denver, Nashville, Los Angeles, Dallas, Austin, Boston, New York City, Newark, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Washington, D.C., Raleigh, Northern Virginia, Atlanta, and Miami.

Another example you could bet on anything these days, even to some really stupid events, not saying that's the dumbest betting option I heard of but is pretty close..except if you have some inside information I guess, do you? 😉
