Disney Continues Anti-Gambling Push in Florida

This story was published more than 6 years ago.

This week the Florida Division of Elections revealed that Disney Worldwide Services has donated another $575,000 to a PAC that's aim is to prevent gambling expansion in Florida.

The media giant made the large-scale donations to Voters in Charge in September. The goal of the PAC is "to give Florida voters, not politicians, the exclusive right to approve or disapprove casino gambling." The group needs to get 766,200 signatures on a petition to get the measure on the 2018 voting ballot, and as of September the group had 285,526.

Disney has been backing the group, thus far donating $2.325 million to the group. Disney has been vocally against gambling, pulling their Marvel themed slots from Playtech and keeping the activity away from its properties and cruise ships.

A statement from Voters in Charge Chairman John Sowinski regarding his group's efforts of late read: "Tens of thousands of Floridians are signing our petition each week and we are on track to accomplish our goal of securing enough signatures for ballot placement by year's end. We look forward to being on the 2018 ballot, mounting an aggressive statewide campaign and returning the ultimate authority to approve casino gambling to the people of Florida where it belongs."

Sounds fair..hope this is the real reason behind Disney's anti-gambling campaign not just their dislike about it.
