FanDuel and DraftKings to Pay More Than $1 Million to Massachusetts

This story was published more than 6 years ago.

Daily fantasy sports groups DraftKings and FanDuel have agreed to each pay more than $1 million to the state of Massachusetts to settle a case of consumer-unfriendly practices.

The case settlement comes just before the start of the NFL season, and comes after both groups were found to advertise in ways that were deceiving, as the low odds of success were never conveyed. The fines will amount to $1.3 million total for each, but the groups will be allowed to continue operating within the borders.

The fine comes after both companies had to pay $6 million to the state of New York due to similar issues last year.

NFL season is the busiest time for DFS groups, as players place a ton of bets for each of the 17 weeks of the season.
