Internet poker giant PokerStars has revealed that they're stepping up to the plate to reimburse players affected by rival poker group PKR's closure.
PKR shut down in May after their business groups revealed severe financial losses. When they went under, they left a large contingent of their players were left with nothing. PokerStars, sensing a good opportunity for a marketing push, has stepped up and signed a deal with the court administrator overseeing the liquidation of PKR, agreeing to refund affected players.
Players who had PKR balances will see that money transferred over to PokerStars accounts, and players can withdraw the money with no strings attached.
Speaking about the agreement PokerStars VP of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser said, "For the majority of PKR players that have an existing PokerStars account, it should take just a few clicks from receiving our email to seeing their PKR funds appear in their PokerStars account. There will be some further steps for the minority that need to open a new PokerStars account, but our aim and intention is to make funds available for withdrawal as quickly as possible."
"There will be no further obligation or play-through required; there are no strings attached."
