Swiss Casinos Rebound to Show Profit in 2016

This story was published more than 7 years ago.

This week the Swiss Federation of Casinos has reported that the country's land casinos generated a profit last year, the first time they did so since 2007.

There are 21 casinos in the country, and they raked in CHF 689 million (€634.7 million) for the year, which is up 1.2% from 2015. 12 of those casinos reported gains for the year. Gambling has been legal in Switzerland since 2004, the same year that a record CHF 769 million was generated by the casinos.

Online betting is not currently legal in the country, although legalization efforts are in place, which would let land operators to offer games to punters within Swiss borders.

Surprising facts and number really, I wonder how they not closed most of the casinos there if they were not on profit for the last 10 years, in the end we always thinking of Switzerland as a one of the wealthiest countries out there but probably casino business had been an exception so far...
