Macau Visitors Up 3.7% in May

This story was published more than 6 years ago.

Tourists returned to Macau in force in May, as numbers were up 3.7% from the same time last year, bringing higher gambling numbers as well.

2,570,428 visitors came to the former Portuguese colony and world's largest gambling market in May, with overnight visitors up 14.2% from last year. Same-day visitors were down 6.1%, but the average length of visit reached 1.3 days. The increase in visitors was partly attributed to Golden Week, which is a Labor Day style holiday.

Actual gambling numbers for the period have not been released, but the gaming industry is rebounding after a few down years, which was brought on by a Chinese crackdown on wealth and corruption.

Obviously Macau doing very well lately after years of crisis and from what I've read mainly here in the news it was because they attracted the middle class players instead of just the VIP's.
