This week a postman in Edinburgh was charged with stealing £134,177 from his local office in order to gamble online on sports.
Daryl Louden, 26, was charged with stealing the money over the course of eight months last year. He was caught after he declined promotions within the branch and his superiors became suspicious. They launched an investigation and realized the funds were missing. When they confronted Louden, he admitted to stealing, and noted that he did so in order to feed his online sportsbetting addiction.
Louden is currently on bail awaiting sentencing, with Deputy Anthony Steel telling the defendant, "You must appreciate this was a very serious breach of trust".
