Skrill Revises Terms, Will Start Charging Dormancy Fee

This story was published more than 7 years ago.

Internet payment processor Skrill has released a new set of terms for merchants, announcing that they'll be charging an inactivity fee and changing various other terms.

The announcement was made through an email and PDF document to merchants, and revealed that if there's no activity on the account in six months there will be a €100 fee assessed. This is highly controversial, and will likely see a number of users jumping ship from the Skrill service, as the fee is very high and there are a number of other options out there for punters and casino operators to use.

Additionally, the company revealed that there will be a 1% surcharge in fees for merchant accounts from the following countries: Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia‐Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea (South), Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovenia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam, Taiwan.

The new fees will be effective from April 3rd, 2017, and players who use Skrill at casinos should be on the lookout for announcements from sites as to whether or not they'll continue using the service or not.

Yet another reason to stop using Skrill. They still haven't admitted that they allowed a large number of user accounts to be hacked and funds stolen last year. Maybe that is why the fees keep going up - charge the customers to cover for their own mistakes.

Oh yeah, what was the end result of that? Did it ever get resolved?

That or they just want get rid of some merchant accounts, in both outcomes they win although I don't know why the hell they'd want that?
But why just $100 fee, why not a 1000$ 👎

They guy I was helping got paid in the end after going through the UK Ombudsman's office. But of course he had to sign something that said it was not Skrill's fault, no liability, no publicity etc. There were loads of other people who had their accounts hacked who presumably did not get their money back and Skrill has said nothing,

Yes I thought many of the customers didn't get their money back, so in fact Skrill losses are maybe not so huge in the end 😉 ...that's why it seems strange that they implementing that fee...seems like they really want to get rid of few accounts or just take the fee which I guess would be a win/win from their point of view..

This is just more reason to not support the paysafe group any longer, the fee increase is actually plain rude in my view , I recived an email from Skrill and Neteller with these new obscene updates along with a request to re KYC my identity again for both accounts :\
Which is annoying in itself , well all this nonsense with the group has had me turning 85% of my online gaming activity to Ecopayz and will hopefully be a full 100% once the few casinos I play at start offering Ecopayz

Yes my Skrill account was also blocked recently but without any word from them, I was aware of that only after I tried to proceed a payment multiple times and it didn't worked out...it's also not easy to find how to contact their support..like they're hiding or something..that's not the way of international company of this size should proceeding but I think with the new e-wallets that are available for gambling would make them loose good number of their customers think.

You right there, they must be one of the most difficult company's to contact with waiting for a response to take days sometimes, I am a Neteller VIP and even with the so called VIP benefits it's equally frustrating contacting Neteller, at least Ecopayz does offer a live chat service on thier site that is available most of the time, all in in this terrible service and ridiculous fee increase with paysafe as whole including thier fee increase to merchants will hopefully see more casinos looking at other payment methods hopefully ,

I once had a Skrill account locked for something like 9 months. They gave no response to repeated emails and I was told many times over the phone that someone would call me back but they never did. I had to get the direct contact details of someone who worked there through a friend just to get the account unlocked. There was never any explanation.

Yip that's Skrill alright , Neteller used to have decent support and even offered a live chat on site as well but as soon as they purchased Skrill they seemed to have included Skrills terrible support and bad
management practices in the sale agreement 😕

Yes it's strange like Skrill purchased them and not the other way round.
So there's 3 of us here and all had troubles with them in the past, quite good percentage 😉
Think Skrill and Netteler fulfiled a niche on the market for which they didn't had a decent competition before if any. But things changing now and finally they're not the only ones out there so hopefully we wont be needing them real soon.

By the way I think meanwhile they raised the fees for the personal accounts too, I received a mail maybe a few moths back that the fee for withdrawing trough Visa cards going up from €2.95 to €3.95...OK... and now I think the fees are even higher, there's another mail from them from this month saying that there would be some changes in terms and just meanwhile it is mentioned that there would be changes in the fees!
Like they're hiding that! but they make sure to inform their customers.
The fees page doesn't even loads from the mail link so it' another mastery for me, here's also the fees page that I found in google and it says the fees for withdrawing trough VIsa is 7.50%!! not €3.95 and the withdrawals in $ via bank wire would not be proceeded any more an my account is in $.
Currency conversion fees are probably also raised is 3.99% now!

So this guys getting really greedy plus they doesn't bother themselves too much informing their customers the proper way, I don't know but that's smells to me...

7.5% !!!

Excuse me while i pick my jaw up off the floor. That is daylight robbery, even by Neteller / Skrill standards.

Can you get an EcoPayz account? Do they have lower fees in your country?
