Swiss Online Casino Site Blockade Shot Down

This story was published more than 7 years ago.

This week the Legal Affairs Committee of the Swiss National Council announced that they've shot down regulations that would have seen online betting sites in the country blocked by regulators.

The Swiss Council of States had previously voted to pass the measure, but the Legal Affairs Committee voted the blockade down by a 13-12 margin. The group did put in place a measure thought that would allow regulators to warn and then prosecute online betting sites that continue to offer services to players.,

The measures will be in place for the next five years, and the Federal Council will be able to amend the rules if they are needed after that time.

Switzerland has some of the strictest laws when it comes to online betting, and seeing as how its not part of the European Union, they are able to get away with tight gambling laws that aren't see elsewhere through Europe.

As always Switzerland is neutral 😉
But that was a close voting, just 13-12 in favour of shutting down the blockade which is great for the local punters, more so that decision will be in force for as long as 5 years period.
