Hostages Taken in Coral Shop, Are Eventually Freed

Police in Jarrow, England reported that four people were taken hostage in a Coral retail shop this past weekend, but were eventually freed after police utilized a less lethal weapon on the assailant.

The victims were taken hostage at around 17:56 GMT by a 39 year old man that was claiming to have a sawed off shotgun. The reason the man stormed the shop and held the victims is currently unknown. The defendant in the case ended up releasing the four people about 50 minutes after he took them hostage, and police eventually used a "less lethal" weapon to take the man down.

It was reported that nobody was injured in the incident, and no firearms were used to subdue the man.

Obviously you could be in danger even if you're placing a bet in the local retail shop, glad to read that nobody was heard and I wonder what exactly "less lethal" weapon police used to take him down, that's an odd definition - "less lethal"
