BetFred Gets ASA Censure

Gibraltar based betting site BetFred has revealed that they've been censured by the UK Advertising Standards Authority over an email promotion that was found to be misleading.

The offending promotion was related to the Euro 2016 football tournament, and the ASA ruled that the terms and conditions of the promotions weren't clear. Punters were particularly offended by the fact that the offer was good for only new punters making their first bet with the company.

In their ruling the ASA stated: "Because of the omission of such a significant condition and the misleading impression given by the ad, we concluded that the promotion was misleading."

Because of this ruling, BetFred cannot air the same promotion unless the terms are made clearer.

I like the fact that the bookies are under strict control from ASA's side which is great especially for the UK punters, sometimes these promos could be really misleading.
