13 Mafia Members Arrested in Online Gambling Charges

This story was published more than 6 years ago.

This week 13 people associated with the mob have been arrested with running an illegal online sportsbetting that was based out of Costa Rica.

The offending site was 4Spades.org, and was found to have been generating millions of dollars in illegal bets. Making things worse, the site also took part in loan sharking, wherein players were granted loans with heavy interest rates. If a player was unable to repay the loan they would likely have faced heavy consequences from the mafia, including physical torture.

Those arrested in the case ranged from between 46-76 years old, and all have pleaded not guilty in a Brooklyn courtroom. It is currently believed that mobster Salvatore DeMeo was the ringleader of the site. DeMeo bonded out of jail by posting 10% of his $300,000 bail.

Casino Listings news will update this story as we learn more about the case.
