Tabcorp Run Afoul of Australian Advertising Standards Board

Australian betting group Tabcorp has been the target of a complaint by the Australian Advertising Standards Board, as a television spot run by the group showed excessive gambling participation.

The spot in question is dubbed "Flashback Weekend", and shows a woman asking a man about a boy's weekend he had. He then remembers spending most of the time gambling and watching sports, burning the fish they caught and neglecting other activities. The spot saw numerous complaints submitted to the ASB, as viewers felt it implied that gambling was a good life choice, that it was fun, and glamorized the activity.

The ASB upheld the complaint, stating that the spot violates the Code of Ethics for advertising in Australia, as it showed what it considers to be an excessive amount of gambling.

For their part, Tabcorp disagrees with the finding, and is appealing, asking for an independent review. Until that time, the spot has been shelved.

Don't sound like too much for me, of course I didn't watched the spot but from what I read here it's really not much..of course most of the TV adverts exaggerate the benefit of using any particular product so from that point of view...of course the way all that been shown is also important.
