Ladbrokes Stops Offering Wagers on eSports

This story was published more than 3 years ago.

UK betting firm Ladbrokes has suspended betting on eSports events after the activity has been met with criticism and scandal among participants.

eSports has been booming over the past year, as betting websites are quick to pick up on the widely watched events and offering action on who will prevail. Many of the covered events include the games Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Go, but other games are also being added to tournaments. While the events are popular, there has been scandal involving the events, as there have been allegations of cheating and even doping.

Ladbrokes hasn't issued a statement on why it pulled bets on the activity, but when a customer service rep was reached on the matter they said, "It has been taken away currently. A decision has not been made yet on its return."

Casino Listings will update this story as we learn more about the decision to pull the vertical.

If the eSports industry has the intention to be a serious sport 🤷 business or whatever it is, the athletes 😕 also should become in a serious professionals like in real sport because there will be too many interests involved, too many funds staked and they just can afford the amateur approach of the participants, although I'm not sure what doping in this sport means (maybe too many coffees or something).
