The Hottest New Slots of 2016/2017

As I traversed the Global Gaming Expo last week, without a doubt the thing being pitched the most were the new game releases coming out from major developers such as IGT, WMS, Aristocrat, Bally, Konami, and more. These developers dominated the expo floor, and there were literally hundreds of different games available to be tested and reviewed, the majority of which were focused on the land casino industry.

Even though Casino Listings mainly focuses on internet operations, I thought there'd be an interest in seeing what's coming to a casino near you. So with that, here's the hottest new casino games coming your way this year and in 2017:

Betty White's Tall Tales

Betty White

Betty White is an American Treasure, and IGT is capitalizing on her immense popularity by milking out some video slots based on her life. The newest game is taking advantage of IGT's new CrystalCurve cabinet, which has curved UHD 4K displays. The game has three progressive jackpots, and features an assortment of video clips of the Golden Girl that'll be sure to make you laugh.

The Simpsons

WMS is working on putting out a slot machine based on The Simpsons, which is a thrill to me as I've been watching them since their first season. I got some up-close and personal time with this game, and walked away very impressed. The game takes place at a variety of locales throughout Spingfield (Moe's Tavern, the Kwik E Mart, etc), and has a ton of great slot features as well. The game is presented on two curved displays, and gives some banter between the characters of Springfield and the players. I was in Universal Studios earlier this year and saw a lot of this Simpsons style tech on The Simpsons ride, and it's very impressive.

Wacky Races

Wacky Races

WMS is following up on their hit Flintstones slot from last year with another Hanna Barbera property with its Wacky Races slot. For the uninitiated, Wacky Races features characters from several Hanna Barbera shows participating in a cross country race, with each vehicle having its own hijinks that they can pull to try and get a better spot. The game has a similar display, using curved displays, while also giving up wild symbols, free spins, and other great features that are tied into the 1968 classic.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad

Meth making science teacher Walter White is getting his own slot, as IGT is developing a new slot based on the hit AMC television show. The game has a Heisenberg Super Free Spins Bonus, a Better Call Saul Bonus Round, Barrel Pick'em Bonus, and more available. The game also has a bunch of footage from the show, and will possibly see you walking away with some of Walter's fortune.

Ghostbusters: Back in Business

Ghostbusters Back in Business Slot

IGT's series of Ghostbusters slots has proven to be very popular over time, as the game is always jam-packed at casinos, and the company even has online slots based on the property. Ghostbusters Back in Business is a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot that mixes in film from the original movie, as well as various spooks and ghouls on the reels. The game has some neat bonus rounds that are played out on the big screen, including a Gozer bonus where you pick the various dog stone figures for cash prizes.

These are some of my favorite slots that I got the chance to play at G2E, but there a bunch of other games coming out that also look great. Many of the games at the show had lines several people deep to play, so I only watched from afar.

Games like Seinfeld looked to mix in some excellent footage from the series, with some interactive bonus rounds, which I feel helped to contribute to their popularity at the show. Of course, having Larry Thomas (the guy who played the Soup Nazi) there to take pictures didn't hurt, either. There were countless other games like this that I didn't get a chance to play, but I am looking up their information and will post about any that stand out as being fun to play.

If you have any questions regarding the games I mentioned above or any other slots that made an appearance at G2E, please feel free to comment on this article and I'll fill you in the best that I can.

Very interesting. Do I see a touch screen being used to control The Simpsons? Is that standard or just being used as a placeholder while they develop the game?

And Wacky Races! I'm a grown man and I still do the Muttley laugh now and then. I wanted the bad guy and Muttley to win so bad while watching that. It used to frustrate me when it never worked out. Same with Road Runner - I was always cheering for the Coyote and I used to get annoyed at how dumb he was.

Always felt the same about the poor Coyote Ed, he's always screwed and hungry in the end, hated Road Runner to be honest Joking
Most of these looks really fine, don't know if it's because of the wider screens or something, The Simpsons - I love it, really curious about that one.
