PokerStars Bans Sorel Mizzi for Using VPN

Internet poker site PokerStars has reportedly banned professional poker player Sorel Mizzi from playing on their services after it was alleged that he used a VPN to circumvent geographical restrictions on the software as well as playing on another player's account.

Mizzi was found to be playing in the United States, and was using another player's account to gain favorable advantage in tournaments. The pro had admitted to these activities in a podcast earlier this year, which is a clear violation of the PokerStars terms and conditions.

Speaking about his activities Mizzi said, "I was being sneaky and I got caught and it sucks. Do I feel terribly guilty about doing this? To be honest, no not really. I create my own moral universe."

To date Mizzi has generated $11 million in winnings, with $7 million coming in real tournaments and the other $4 million online.

Casino Listings will update this story as more developments arise.

That guy is cheeky Thumb Down he gets caught but obviously not regretting at all, as a pro he has an advantage over the amateur players he faces online anyway but even that's not enough for him, should be penalized in some way, hate such cheeky bastards.

This guy is really shocking me, to be so cocky about this.. I think that if the casino really wanted, they could sue him about breach of their terms. And if he is so successful- why the breach of terms? I can understand using a vpn as I do it myself, but not playing from someone elses account..

The only reason I'm using VPN from time to time is to... play a game, and it's not even a gambling game, just for fun Smile

I am using vpn constantly but just because my local government has blocked gaming sites, but I never register under a country that isn't mine or has mine blocked.

Are they blocked all the gaming sites in Latvia or there is still some available?
Here the local gambling commission block most of the online casinos and bookies in the past year but there is still few decent available, even Bet365 sportsbook is legal now but casino isn't available, shame really.

No , not all sites, but lots of them, luckily my favorites like Slotjoint, Doublestar, Trada and many others are still available without any proxy.

He tried to screw his friend at the final table of a WCOOP Main Event.

(he was vpning in from US under a screen name that was unknown to his friend. They both made final table, Sorel offered to help his friend out by watching his friends screen to give advice)

He was also banned in 2008 for multi-accounting on stars : http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip-sponsored-online-...

And got caught cheating another player in live Open Face: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/61/mtt-community/sorel-allegedly-botto...

Obviously the guy has a history cheating, and I wonder how they still let him doing that, certainly it's not easy for anyone to restrict his appearances while he could play anywhere online too, but at least they should penalized him with some fines maybe and restrict his main event appearances. Sound logical to me especially after he gets caught multiple times.

What a scumbag. He would screw over his best friend in such a crappy way? Well, I guess it's not to be unexpected due to his history of cheating. But good thing that he didn't get any more than he could have by scumming his friend - getting ninth place. At least Rory Brown was able to win a sizeable amount.

Yeah this just seems to be getting worse. Can't the casino sue him because of this? But he is definitely a bad guy.
