Cricket Australia Suspends Players Over Betting

This week Cricket Australia announced that they have opted to suspend two players for betting on games as part of their anti-corruption approach.

Players Corinne Hall and Hayley Jensen were both handed two year bans from the group, after they were found to have bet on matches. Jensen bet on a match between Australia and New Zealand, while Hall bet on two games in a men's competition. The bank will mean that the players cannot participate in matches for a period of six months.

Joel Logan of the South Australia team was also given a suspended sentence for betting on matches.

Commenting on the bans Cricket Australia integrity head Iain Roy said, "We take a proactive, zero-tolerance approach to maintaining the integrity of our sport and this includes any form of betting on cricket globally. These players have accepted the seriousness of their errors and have voluntarily accepted their sanctions."

I guess there are some ways for the players to place a bet without the authorities know anything, trough some relatives friends or online. I've always wondered how these players left themselves to be caught? Not that I support their actions of course Wink

I think they never expected to be caught because they are virtually unknown players betting on matches they never took part in. A couple were women betting on the men's games. Rules are rules though and its not a good look having players bet on their own sport. There are millions of other things they could bet on if they want to.

I know you're right Ed, but sometimes I think these rules are too harsh trough the players, maybe there should be some rules and some exceptions when probably you could bet on the sport you like and practise. Maybe out of the league or the country your team participate in, in the end I don't believe that most of those low leagued cricket players earn a decent pay-checks.
