The two biggest names in daily fantasy sports are reportedly in talks to merge, with the possibility of forming one mega-company that could dominate the US market.
Bloomberg reported that talks have been ongoing for quite some time, and that financial investors on both sides are involved in the talks. Thus far there is no agreement, and talks could fall through at any time, but it appears to be advantageous for both brands to come to a deal given the recent struggles that the industry has faced in the United States.
Daily fantasy sports has been under fire in the United States, as various states have questioned the legality of the activity, claiming it falls in the realm of gambling. Recently, a few states have legalized the activity. On the other hand, other states have moved to outlaw the activity, causing a reduction in revenues to the companies.
