PokerStars Takes Number 1 Spot in New Jersey

Online poker company PokerStars has announced they have quickly become the biggest poker site in New Jersey, holding 42% of the cash game market in just their first month in operation.

The PokerStars site went live on March 21st, and saw an average of 180 in cash players over a 7 day average, beating WSOP/888 Poker with 150 players, and PartyPoker with 100 players on average. The launch also boosted poker traffic in New Jersey by 30%.

Commenting on the success Amaya Interim CEO Rafi Ashkenazi said, "I'm very proud of our employees, including those we have hired in New Jersey, who have worked diligently to prepare for the launch of a robust, stable platform backed by great customer service. We hope to continue our early positive momentum in the market as PokerStars NJ continues to roll out additional marketing and promotions."

I don't think it's surprising at all, we all know that Poker Stars is the leading brand worldwide so I understand the great interest that New Jersey punters have but it's really impressive how quickly Poker Stars becoming N1 there.

Gee those player numbers are tiny. Only 180 players over a 7 day period. It doesn't speak much for the health of the NJ online poker market. Surely they have to look into allowing cross-state play with other regulated states to increase the player pool for everyone's benefit.
