Betway to Sponsor World Cup of Darts

Online betting company Betway has announced that it has signed a deal with the Professional Darts Corporation and will become the title sponsor of the World Cup of Darts, which is to be held on June 2nd through the 5th this year.

The deal comes after Betway signed a sponsorship deal of the Premier League of Darts, and will see the company getting prime exposure on signage throughout the venue. The World Cup of Darts will see two players on a team from their respective country, facing off against other countries. There will be 32 countries in the tournament, including South Africa, Hong Kong, Wales, Australia, Belgium, Scotland, and the Philippines. The tournament has a prize pool of £250,000.

Commenting on the deal Betway Spokesman Anthony Werkman said, "Our sponsorship of the Betway Premier League Darts has been immensely successful for the past two years, and we're strengthening our relationship with the PDC by supporting another blockbuster darts format. I'm certain that the Betway World Cup of Darts will be yet another fantastic showcase for the sport and we are thrilled to be able to work closely with the PDC once again."

Professional Darts Corporation Barry Hearn also commented on the deal, noting: "This global event will be a great platform to showcase the Betway brand worldwide, with the World Cup of Darts' ever-growing popularity reflected by increased interest from broadcasters around the world as well as from nations wishing to be involved in the tournament."

Betway has a strong relations with some mainly British situated sports like Darts or Snooker as far as I know and this is definitely a good advertising for the company. The first time I heard their name was while watching snooker tournament so I guess this is very effective way for them to make a famous name.

I guess the reason why Darts become more popular now is because of the wider TV coverage lately all across Europe and although I'm not the biggest fan I could say it's one of those party sports you could watch with beer in the hand, of course there many people who practice Darts the and that's one more reason for the popularity of the sport I guess.

I used to watch darts on TV when I was a kid. Never mind the people watching having a beer in hand - the players themselves used to be drinking while playing. I used to love it when the announcer would exclaim "one hundred and eiggghhhhhty" in his thick northern English accent!
