This week sports website Deadspin has reported that former NFL running back Clinton Portis owes the Borgata Hotel Casino Spa in Atlantic City $170,000, and once tried to pay the debt with bad checks.
The revelation comes as the two-time Pro Bowler filed for bankruptcy, noting that he has $4.85 million in debt that he cannot repay. Under traditional bankruptcy law, filers are able to discharge most forms of debt, but the Borgata is fighting for money it claims is still owed.
Portis got a line of credit from the casino in 2011, and eventually was extended with a line of up to $200,000. Portis then repaid $30,000 of the debt he accrued, and then tried to pay the debt with six checks, all of which were returned because there were insufficient funds in Portis' account.
The Borgata is claiming that Portis knew he did not have the money to repay the debt, he cannot have the money cleared through bankruptcy law. As of press time there has been no ruling, although a court hearing has been scheduled for March 3rd to hear both sides.

Interesting story and it seems like he tried to cheat the casino with all these bad checks. When you have so huge debts like Clinton Portis you have to know when to stop gambling because it could end up even tragic in the end.
