Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau revealed that VIP gambling numbers in the world's largest gambling market dropped by 39.9%, due largely to a Chinese crackdown on corruption.
VIP gaming numbers accounted to MOP127.82 billion ($15.9 billion USD) last year, making up 50% of gaming revenues, down from a high of 80% of revenues. Gambling has taken a big hit in Macau over the past year and a half, as revenues fell 34.3% when compared to 2014.
Even with the drop in revenues, Macau easily outpaces Las Vegas as the world's largest gambling market, hauling in billions of dollars annually. The market is shifting toward more casual players as the VIP numbers sag, as China's middle class is growing into a larger section of the population.
