Cricket Coach Suspended Over Match Fixing Allegations

This week it was revealed that the Sri Lanka Cricket team has suspended Bowling Coach Anusha Samaranayake after it was revealed he has a relationship with Gayan Vishwajith, who reportedly approached players in an attempt to fix a match last year.

Vishwajith tried to get players to throw a match against the West Indies team in October, offering them 10 million Rupees to lose. The team rejected the offer though and ended up winning the match by six runs.

Vishwajith has been given a lifetime ban from the sport in the country, and is restricted from being able to even visit cricket grounds.

Commenting on the matter Sri Lanka Captain Angelo Mathews said, "We all want this game to be clean and whoever has done something wrong, we want them to bring before the courts and take certain decisions. As captain of the team I have to mention that the cricketers felt really uncomfortable the last few days because they are the ones who came forward and reported this to ICC [International Cricket Council] and SLC."
