Although the Restoration of America's Wire Act bill has not gained any traction in Congress, that is not stopping Representative Jason Chaffetz from pushing the online gambling ban, as he has scheduled a hearing on the matter for December 9th.
The hearing date was released via Twitter by John Pappas, who currently is serving as the Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance. He also went on list the title of the hearing, tweeting:
Dec 9th Internet Gaming hearing is entitled: A Casino in Every Smartphone -- Law Enforcement Implications. https://t.co/MHwdWoPAzx— PokerPlayersAlliance (@ppapoker) December 2, 2015
As of press time there has been no witness list or agenda on the hearing, but the meeting will be held in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which has 43 members, but only 3 of which are co-sponsors of the RAWA bill.
The Restoration of America's Wire Act bill would overturn a 2011 Justice Department decision that ruled that the Wire Act only applied to sportsbetting, and would effectively outlaw online gambling in the United States.
