South Korea to Up Punishments for Online Gambling

The country of South Korea has announced that they will charge operators and players of online betting sites with organized crime activity, which will land longer prison sentences for those convicted.

Those caught conducting illegal gambling operations face jail times of up to 7 years as well as fines that can reach $60,000, but organized crime charges can carry life sentences. The police force in the country also said that it reserves the right to charge employees of betting operators and web hosting companies in conjunction with the crimes.

The stance on operators and players is the toughest yet for South Korea, who has seen online gambling become a large problem for the Asian country, as there are countless online betting sites operating illegally within its borders.
