Malaysia May Update Gambling Laws

This week it was revealed that the Malaysian Home Ministry is making moves to update the country's gambling laws in an effort to reduce the amount of online gambling taking place in the country.

Currently gambling is outlawed in almost all forms under the Communications and Multimedia Act, Lotteries Act 1952 and Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Betting Ordinance 1953.The new law would integrate online betting laws, giving authorities the chance to better press through on fighting the betting rings.

Commenting on the matter Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said, "They have proposed amendments to the laws on gambling to allow them to better deal with the problem."
