ASA Censures Ladbrokes Over Email Ad

This story was published more than 8 years ago.

This week the UK Advertising Standards Authority censured Ladbrokes over a targeted email that featured football player Memphis Depay, who is only 21 years old.

Under UK law, betting advertisements cannot feature models under the age of 25, and the ASA recently censured Bet365, Totesport, and Coral for a similar infraction. Issuing a statement on the matter Ladbrokes conceded that they were in violation, and attributed the lapse to their marketing team.

The statement by Ladbrokes read: "The use of Memphis Depay's image in the context of an email was not acceptable and to avoid a repeat of the issue, they had reminded their marketing team of their obligations under the CAP Code and their company policy."
