Internet poker group the Winning Poker Network has revealed that it suffered a Distributed Denial of Service attack on Sunday after it refused to pay a ransom to stop the attack.
The attack is the latest for a betting operator that has been held hostage by the hacker group, who demands payment in Bitcoin to not unleash the attack on the site. The latest attack took place on Sunday during a poker tournament with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. It is thought that the attack cost the site roughly $200,000 in damages.
The tournament had 1,600 players register for the event despite the downtime and the tournament was able to continue.
