The Swiss government is reportedly moving toward legalizing and regulating online gambling within its borders, bringing with it consumer protections and tax revenues to the country's gamblers.

The Federal Council revealed this week that it believes regulation of online will protect consumers and allow for land-based casinos to get in on the online betting frenzy. The possible changes come after a public consultation on internet betting took place back in 2012.

It is thought that regulated online gambling in Switzerland will bring anti-money laundering provisions as well as ISP blocking and fines for operators found to be offering games in the country.

No timeframe for the legalization and regulation of the activity has been given, but Casino Listings will update this story as the development of the laws progresses.
