The UK Advertising Standards Authority has revealed this week that it has censured the online betting groups Bet365, Totesport, and Coral for posting Tweets that featured images of players under the age of 25.
The offending ads featured pro golfer Jordan Spieth, who is only 22 years old and caused the citations to occur. The Committee of Advertising Practice code states that nobody who is under the age of 25 can play a significant role in a gambling firm's ads.
The groups said that the tweets were editorial in nature and thus not offending, but the ASA said that the spots were indeed ads and that Spieth played a role in the spots. Under the ruling the operators cannot post the tweets again and must obey the restriction moving forward.
