Police in Thailand announced that they have conducted a raid on an online gambling ring this week, revealing that they arrested 17 Chinese nationals in the process.

More than 50 law enforcement officials conducted the raid, arresting 14 men and 3 women who were using laptops to conduct online an illegal online lottery operation. The ringleader of the scheme was identified as Cheng Kai Yu, who said that he rented the house beginning in early August. The main company was based in China, with the operational side of things based in Thailand.

All of those arrested in the raid were in the country on tourist visas, and Yu admitted that he had decided to run the ring in Thailand as the penalties are not nearly as severe as they are in his home country.
