This week the European Gaming and Betting Association has announced that they are challenging the Dutch process of issuing lottery licenses in the Netherlands, as the trade group claims the process is "non-transparent and discriminatory".
Last year licenses were awarded to De Staatsloterij, De Lotto, Holland Casino, Nationale Postcode Loterij, BankGiro Loterij and VriendenLoterij by Kansspelautoriteit. EGBA claims that the lack of transparency in the award process and the fact that there was no correct tendering process in the awarding of the license is a violation, and thus caused the group to challenge the process.
The EGBA is lodging the case after it claims that Betfair was denied the opportunity to submit a bid for horse racing and Toto licenses. For their part, Kannspleautorteit claims that its decision is valid, as the policies are in line with other Dutch gaming policy issues.
