This week the Executive Director of the International Centre for Sport Security claimed that he believes €1 billion is wagered on each English Premier League football match throughout the world, and that 80% of those bets are illegal.
Chris Eaton made that claim during a meeting in Doha, Qatar this week, as his group is constantly looking at ways to combat match-fixing. Eaton once served as the Head of Security at FIFA, and said that most illegal betting is done in jurisdictions where the activity is outlawed.
Eaton said he does not think that EPL games are fixed, but noted that stringent measures should be taken to combat match fixing. Most players betting on football bet on half-time and full-time scores.
