56 Sentenced in Vietnam Gambling Ring

This week 56 people convicted of running an online betting ring in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam were sentenced this week.

The defendants were found guilty of running a ring associated with 188bet, and were handing sentences ranging from 9 months to 8 years in prison. Eight of the individuals were given stiff fines ranging between $1,300 and $2,200 USD. The ringleader of the enterprise was Vuong Chan Thanh, who was given a stiff 8 year prison sentence.

The ring was alleged to have operated between 2011 and 2013, with Thanh also running a telecommunications firm. Thanh had his employees and family members set up more than 55 bank accounts to run the crime ring and then funneled roughly $30 million USD to the accounts, which were generated from bets placed at 188bet
