Germany Investigating Malta Licensed Casinos for Tax Liability

This week the Times of of Malta newspaper reported that several online casinos based out of Malta are being investigated by Germany's tax regime to investigate whether or not they are liable for taxes.

The report is citing a German tax authority, who claims that the country is looking into companies outside of Germany that are offering services within their borders. Those betting sites may be subject to sportsbetting taxes as well as Germany's VAT tax. Companies that don't report their taxes to German authorities could potentially face criminal prosecution as well as large fines.

It will be interesting to see how the investigation winds up, and any potential ramifications that come of it. Casino Listings will update this story as more developments arise.
