Swansea FC Player Fined for Betting

Swansea FC player James Demetriou has been fined £700 and given a warning by the British Football Association after he admitted to betting on 13 football matches.

The 19 year old player bet on the matches during a period ranging from December 3rd 2013 to January 21st, 2015, which violates FA Rule E8. Players who play under the rule of FA are banned from betting as an attempt to protect the integrity of the sport, and the group has gone through extensive measures to educate players on why they cannot bet while playing professionally.

Demetriou's punishment comes shortly after the FA fined Ipswich player Edward Bishop £3,000 for a similar offense.
