Malaysia's Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister has revealed that his branch of the government has shut down 301 online betting sites in the first half of the year.
The revelation was made by Datuk Jailani Johari, who said that the shutdowns were made after looking at 940 applications to shut down betting sites. The country has made moves in recent years to clamp down on illegal gambling, raiding several operations and routinely shutting down betting sites.
Speaking on the matter Jailani said, "The ministry and the MCMC will not keep quiet, but will act by censoring and blocking online gambling or any other inappropriate websites to combat the online gambling activity which had raised public concern."
