Hungary Restricts Online Betting to Select Land Operators

Hungary's parliament has adopted an amendment to its Gambling Act this week wherein online sports betting will be restricted to state owned operators Szerencsejáték Zrt and Magyar Lóversenyfogadást Szervező Kft.

Online casino games will be handled by land casino operators, one of which is owned by film producer Andy Vajna, while the other is owned by Gabor Szima. Those two men will control the online and land casino market, making it interesting to see how the market will shake out.

The changes to the law passed by a 126-65 margin and will come into force on October 1st.
