British Columbia Comps Online Gamblers Impacted by Glitch

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation has announced that they will pay out $1.1 million CDN to nine different online gamblers who were impacted by a flaw in the video slot Wizard of Odds.

The slot had a glitch that popped up a message that said the players won the Wizard of Odds jackpot BCLC website, over a long period of time. BCLC Spokeswoman Susan Dolinski said that the group conducted a review, discovered the error, and informed the players.

Dolinski says that the BCLC will pay out $1.1 million to the nine players who were affected by the glitch, and will also reimburse other players who played the game and lost money between July 16, 2014 and June 11, 2015.

It appears that the BCLC can afford to pay out the winnings, as the group said that online gambling revenue topped $109 million CDN in 2014-2015.

Good on the BCLC for taking this stance. Top notch right there, even though they didn't have to pay out the winnings.

I'm very surprised and happy to hear of this happening given most casinos usually absolve themselves of all responsibility when there is a game malfunction that goes in favour of the player. I wonder if they will be trying to recover the money from the developer of the Wizard of Odds slot?
