This week the UK newspaper group Guardian News and Media alongside US watchdog group Campaign for Accountability filed a petition with a Clark County Judge to unseal records that may establish ties between Las Vegas Sands and Chinese organized crime.
The filings come as Sands fights a lawsuit from former Macau CEO Steven Jacobs, who claims he was let go after he refused to help facilitate money laundering from Chinese organized crime groups. The evidence that the groups want to unseal was reportedly put together by Hong Kong investigator Steven Vickers. The groups are seeking to have the records unsealed as a matter of compelling public interest.
Adelson is a prominent Republican party donor, and is seen as having his money tied into politicians who agree to help further his agenda, including outlawing internet gambling in the United States. It is thought that if the evidence is unsealed, it could point to a relationship between Las Vegas Sands and organized crime groups, which could end up costing Sands its Nevada gaming license.
